In recognition of the great efforts of Arvest associates during the 1 Million Meals campaign in September and October 2012, the Northwest Arkansas Food Bank presented its annual Spirit Award to Arvest Bank.

The award was presented to Arvest Bank during the Northwest Arkansas Food Bank’s* annual meeting at the Center for Nonprofits in Rogers, Ark. on Feb. 21.

“For the Spirit Award, we select a group or individual that contributes time, donations, or other resources that help the Northwest Arkansas Food Bank in our mission of ‘Feeding Hungry People,’” said Melissa Vest, director of development at Northwest Arkansas Food Bank. “Due to the great Arvest event, 1 Million Meals, we have chosen Arvest as our Spirit Award recipient for 2012.”

Arvest Bank overall exceeded its 1 Million Meals campaign goal by raising 1.38 million meals in the fight against hunger. All money and nonperishable food items raised through this campaign directly benefited 44 different organizations feeding local communities in four states – Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri and Oklahoma.

The campaign total of 1.38 million meals was made possible through donations from the bank, Arvest associates, customers and local residents through in-branch fundraisers and nonperishable food drives in all Arvest branches.

A total of 391,051 meals were provided in Northwest Arkansas. Arvest unveiled the total amount staying in the local area during an event hosted at the Northwest Arkansas Food Bank the week of Thanksgiving 2012. All the 13 Northwest Arkansas food partners benefiting from the donations are also clients of the food bank.

The Northwest Arkansas Food Bank serves more than 450,000 people annually in Benton, Washington, Madison and Carroll counties through partnerships with local human service agencies.
